OUR MOTTO

We keep Eatonville First in everything that we do.

Who We Are

1887 First stands as a beacon of self-sustainability, freedom, and empowerment for Eatonville and beyond. We are rooted in the fight for economic independence, constitutional rights, and community solidarity. Our mission is to educate, congregate, and unite in the spirit of American African pride and self-determination. Together, we honor the legacy of Eatonville as the first all-Black self-governed town in the U.S., while building a future defined by unity and resilience.

Our Four Pillars

  1. Economic Independence: We champion financial freedom by creating platforms and opportunities for Black entrepreneurs, fostering self-sufficiency and long-term prosperity.
  2. Cultural Pride: With unwavering commitment, we celebrate Black excellence, heritage, and the unique legacy of Eatonville as a symbol of resilience and strength.
  3. Collective Education: Knowledge is power. We prioritize education and skill development, empowering individuals to reclaim their narratives and secure their futures.
  4. Unity and Self-Determination: We cultivate spaces for congregation and collaboration, reinforcing the importance of staying on code to protect and uplift our communities.

What We Do

At 1887 First, we are dedicated to:

  • Educating: Providing workshops, mentorship programs, and resources that empower individuals to achieve self-sustainability and economic freedom.
  • Congregating: Creating events and initiatives like the 1887 Night Market, where Black-owned businesses thrive, and communities connect.
  • Staying on Code: Strengthening solidarity through shared values, cultural pride, and unwavering commitment to our collective goals.

Our Mission

To reclaim independence, empower communities, and build a legacy of freedom and pride.

Our Vision

To establish Eatonville as a global model of Black unity, economic independence, and cultural pride, where communities stand strong and self-reliant.
