Our commitment to an accessible website for the whole Eatonville community.
Our commitment
1887 First wants its reporting, services, merchandise, and community information to be available to as many people as possible, including people with disabilities. Accessibility is part of serving the public and respecting the full Eatonville community.
We are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA for the parts of 1887First.com that we control.
What we are working to provide
Our accessibility practices include:
- Semantic page structure and meaningful headings
- Keyboard-accessible navigation and controls
- Visible keyboard focus indicators
- Sufficient text and interface contrast
- Text alternatives for meaningful images
- Captions or transcripts for important video and audio content
- Form labels, instructions, validation, and understandable error messages
- Zoom and responsive layouts that work across screen sizes
- Reduced-motion support when possible
- Descriptive link text
- Accessible article, search, navigation, and commerce experiences
- Ongoing testing with automated tools, keyboard navigation, and assistive technology where practical
Third-party content
Some features may be provided by third parties, including video players, social media embeds, forms, maps, payment services, ecommerce tools, and linked websites. We may not control every aspect of those experiences, but we welcome reports of barriers and will seek an accessible alternative when reasonably possible.

If you cannot access a story, document, product, form, video, or service, contact us. Tell us what you were trying to access, the page address, the barrier you encountered, and the format or accommodation that would help. We will make a reasonable effort to provide the information or service through an alternative method.
